Cash & Credit---a poem by O.L. Buzzerd
in the old days
people paid cash
for things they needed
either that or they
dealt with a store
that would carry their tab
on the books
but payin' cash
was regular routine
there weren't no credit or debit cards
and all banks were local
you either had the cash
or you didn't
if you didn't
you saved until you did
dollars and cents
went into a coffee can
and after a while
you had the money you needed
then and only then
you bought the item you wanted
payin' cash is now outdated
and people are addicted
to buyin stuff they don't need
that's why they end up broke
much like the damn country itself
drunk on credit
Savin' used to be a virtue
but not no more
the govmint cain't balance a budget
and has give up bein' responsible
that means we live high now
but pass our debt on to our grand-kids
who will one day wonder
what the hell we were doin'
Come the future
people will just be slaves on a guvmint plantation
but with no Abe Lincoln to set them free
ya cain't squeeze blood out of a turnip
and you cain't borrow yourself out of debt.
