An Idle Life
Poets preface every day
with trying to find an easy way
to work as little as can be
and devote their time to poetry
We can with candor make the claim
that poet's go against the grain
to give them cover to access
their sympathies toward laziness
God and poets must have rest
yet some overdo the rest they get
they fall into temptation's grasp
embrace the charm of idleness
Still out of idleness described
work's not the thing from which they hide
when asked what they do, they observe
their job is manufacturing words.
