Running
I went out running this afternoon, for a spritely jog,
Down the Plantation Road, to clear the head of fog.
The legs, they take a while to heat, the heart it was fast pumpin,
By the time I got to Gilford, my mood it was jumping.
1 and 2 the breathing goes, to the rhythm of my legs,
Its times like this that I really wish, I was longer off the fegs.
I pass the fingerpost on the...

GHOSTS: Or defiled corpse?
Recently I took a walk up the landing to a fellow prisoner’s cell. I had my cup of tea and my tobacco with me as I didn’t plan on leaving too soon. As is the norm, he was busy shooting things with his trusty X-Box fingers; he plays the guitar too, so he must be naturally good with his hands.
He had recently purchased a new game; this had just arrived so he was giving it full gusto. The gam...

Stations of the Cross
On the Saturday afternoon, we gathered at the door.
The air was moderately warm, for what lay in store.
Father McCrystal led the way, to the first and foremost station.
It’s amazing all the stories of those, who were in this situation.
Dromantine House, is cleverly and poignantly situated.
The building and the lake, supreme, leaves one feeling quite sedated.
Young people, wh...

Step 4
Step 4 keeps getting fired at him, he tries his hardest not to react.
‘Are you so fucking sinless?’ he asks, ‘none of your business’ he fires back.
It’s great to have this solid defence, against the very first drink.
It’s great to have the clarity, and the sobriety to think.
He’s done the crime and he’s done the time, let him move on with his life.
You’ve enough business of your ow...

You
You’re a risk and a danger, the Christian chaplain did say,
‘Fuck you’ I thought, but didn’t speak, it was just one of those days.
I went back to my employment, inside the prison kitchen,
Going over and over it in my head, my attitude was bitching.
I found release, back in the cell, when work was all closed up,
I filled the flask for a hot cuppa, to the brim I filled the cup.

Search
Mountaineers find it high amongst the clouds;
Surfers find it amongst the turbulent blue waters of the deepest oceans;
Divers find it amongst the deepest if the blue, where unheard of creatures can be found;
Writers find it in their scrawl. In words, maybe thoughtfully placed;
Lovers find it in a touch, or in the heat of a moment;
Lawyers in a conviction, or in the quashing of ...

Means and Ways
Six weeks to go in my sentence, starting to heavy whack.
Fears of beyond the outer steels, the fears of coming back.
The daily grind is nearly o’er, and time is moving on fast.
I hope to make it count this time, I pray to God it lasts.
Eight times now, haven’t missed a trick, no stranger to the system,
The problem is, some of the lags, when you’re out you really miss em.
It’...

Accused
At one time I laughed
At one, who
Had been accused, wrongly, of assault
Oh the irony,
I return from the visiting room as my father,
Goes home
A Senior Officer gestures me to
Follow him.
He tells me, ‘I have an accusation of assault.’
I say, ‘I didn’t accuse’, he says, ‘no’,
‘You are the accused’
I say ‘who?’ he says who
I say ‘what?’ he says what

Recovery
My God this is amazing, this feeling that I have.
It feels like I am on a high, my problems cut in half.
I spent a week in London, spilling all my shit,
Arrived home recently with a feeling that I’ve conquered it.
The people that I met there touched my heart so true.
Some of them are in so much pain, they can’t believe in You.
The addict who still shoots up, asked me to pray for her,
She ...

Maintenance
You know that feeling of desire, that comes when its’ least wanted.
The ego, it inflates itself, you feel you must be flaunted.
You know you must let go, or suffer, and drive right through the pain,
The ego, it dissolves once more and comes normality again.
God has made a promise to me, that wherever I may go,
He will be my constant Guardian, his Spirit to me he’ll show.
So ...
