Competition?
We don’t seem to have had a competition on the WOL blog of late. In the past these have inspired and produced some excellent poetry and good fun. I’m not sure why these have come to a halt, but in the absence of anyone else I would be happy to provide a prize and admin/collation of entries – if anyone is interested?
I don’t wish to step on anyone’s toes, so if I’m jumping the gun or speaking out of turn then someone shoot me down immediately.
Does anyone else have any thoughts?
Regards,
A.E.

Great. Go for it Anthony. A prize is not strictly necessary. Your competition, you make the rules!

Pressure of other projects is the only reason - it's one of those things I and others keep meaning to do and it was definitely on the cards for the New Year. I would LOVE for you to toss an idea into the air. I think different peeps bring fresh ideas.
I'm glad you've enjoyed those competitions as much as I did. Sometimes when I'm out and about at venues, I hear poets say 'this is something I wrote for a WOL comp' and occasionally those poems have made it to print in recognised anthologies. I always feel warm inside that we can have provided any inspiration at all.
I'm going to check out your blog now!

Just to close a loop in the discussion: MC Newbury suggested a Christmas Carol a little while ago. Just a suggestion, but would that be a suitable subject for you to set Anthony?

I've hoped that a new competition would pop up soon - I was trying to think of a subject but couldn't - and would have suggested it if something had sprung to mind. I agree it does encourage creativity. A bit like when you go to a writing group and have to write about a word or subject. I wouldn't have written a poem about a bucket if that hadn't happened! Sorry John but I'm not keen on the christmas carol idea. But at least you've suggested something - more than I have managed!

Hey Is - that's me that is! The very first competition I entered on WOL got me a place in the Best of Feathertale anthology! :D
I've been invited to the book launch btw. It's in Ontario :D :D
Anthony - YES YES YES - I bloody love those comps!
