Petrified Peace She stands, struggling to balance on an emblem of war. A torso piece of armour from a fallen soldier lies beneath. Her right foot covers the carved laurel leaves. A small weighted hand holds aloft the trembling palm of victory. Vultures are those of high rank, circling, watching from safety, above, daring her to fall so they can consume her heart, her dove. Her glazed stare contains questions and uncertainty; ‘Why do they fight; why do they disgrace and forget me?’ Ashamed, she wishes to wave her palm of victory in the faces of those who maim in the name of profit. More soldiers will fall at her feet, playing their masters’ war games; but there Peace stands alone, petrified, ready to ease the pain. The Scarab I speak on behalf of all scarabs. We’ve rolled our balls of crap for over forty million years. We’ve been here long enough to know when a species needs to evolve. The Earth has become a sphere of human droppings - but within that dung are eggs of change, waiting to hatch into larvae and feed. So, will you wait for Anubis to open your mouth? Will you be reborn as something other than human? Or will you roll your faecal globe into a burrow of destruction? http://paulpykepoet.blogspot.co.uk/
