Biography
Hello! I'm from Kent but now living in Guildford in Surrey. A menopausal empty nester, as @Rhymes_n_Roses on Instagram I enjoy sharing poetry which combines nostalgia and attempts to make sense of modern life. Although many of my subjects are serious, I (sometimes) try to inject humour and positivity. I have published three pamphlets “Introducing Rhymes_n_Roses"; “Viral Odes” written during the first wave of the pandemic and "Willing Words" about the process of writing poetry -all available to order online via bookstores or my website. I also have poems in a number of international anthologies. In 2021 I completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Surrey & I have assisted with their Surrey New Writers Festival. I host mid-monthly Poetry and Pizza open mic night at the Solar Sisters cafe in Guildford and, along with Rodney Wood, I co-host Write out Loud Woking at the Fiery Bird Venue in Woking on the last Thursday of the month. I am one third of the Booming Lovelies trio with Heather Moulson and Trisha Broomfield and we have performed our one hour poetry show (featuring fun poems on growing up as a Baby Boomer and the trials and tribulations of modern life) at the Guildford Fringe, Cranleigh Arts and the Guildford Institute. Thank-you
Summer Fun (featured in A Little Black Book of Summer Poems from Hedgehog Press)
Holidays were wet and tented, sandwich stuffed and crotchety. Spent on rowdy, crowded beaches, castles flooded by the sea. Back to campsite entertainment, sour jokes and slot machines. Cooking on the smelly stove : tinned sausages, fried eggs and beans For a treat, the new James Bond film (Sean was quite a hit with Mum). Once, a knickerbocker glory — eyes were bigger than my tum. When the week was done, we’d pack up, waterlogged and feeling flat. Hours in the car like sardines, greeted by the sun and cat.

Welcome to Write Out Loud, Sharron. Loved hearing your poem 'Hair Today' at Woking Stanza last week, and now I see it's in the next Dempsey&Windle anthology. Well done! Hope you'll try out some of your poems here from time to time. Greg
