UNIVERSAL KILLER

entry picture

(I had to do several takes of the audio.  I kept choking up)

She’s 5’ 2” and he’s 6’ 4”

She’s black, he’s white, it really doesn’t care

He’s all of 81 and she’s only 17

Its gift is death to each in equal share;

She’s a Muslim from Iran, he’s a Catholic from France

A rich man or a pauper on the dole

It’s a doctor or a nurse inside that funeral hearse

Who’s Bangladeshi or a Pole

He’s a straight guy from Kentucky, she’s a lesbian from Peru

A herdsman from Botswana or Nepal;

Our differences suspended as a family of Man

United in the queue to heed Death's call;

He’s a socialist, she’s Tory, this one voted SNP

She’s a vegan, he’s a smackhead off the street

This will visit us with death in equal opportunity

And it has us, for the moment, in retreat;

It’s the Universal Killer and now has the upper hand

Our duty, one and all, is to defend;

So stay safe in your home and stay strong in your heart –

We will survive this monster in the end.

Thanks, Vautaw. I suspect this won’t be a single battle but the war will be a series of them over the next few years. And it reminds us that things like the Black Death are not just historical concepts.

Powerful piece John. This universal killer has no place to hide, kindred spirits are uniting to bring it down. Write on! ?

Trevor Wainwright says I have the perfect face for radio, Kev. Coming from Trev, I respect that.

Sings like Donovan, and looks like Jason Donovan. You've got it all.

Ps. When will Specsavers be reopening.

Thanks, Greg and Graham. Indeed my voice “caught” a few times, I had to do a number of “takes” on the audio. And I think you’re right, Graham, BSM had a voice I’d describe as tremulously strong.
Thanks for the “Like”, Jon.

Come to think of it, didn't BSM's voice warble a little in this song?

From bog rolls, to this. Very moving, John. And I swear I heard your voice wobbling during it .. and no wonder .. Buffy Saint Marie and Donovan would be proud of you.

Hard to believe, I know, Don.

I can't believe you were John
An awkward little cuss
The apple of his mother's eye
He was, to her, no fuss

I could go on. But I won't....

MC - Take it from one who has spent their entire life being awkward, politically, socially, professionally - it is good right now to comply.

The cockney "Cheers, me old China" has just achieved a new
resonance in today's world of great expectations and limited common
consultation. Just when Hauwei - a word uncomfortably close to "how" and "why" -
is featuring prominently in this brave new global world! We may comply with what we are told to do but we should never cease
asking questions about the how and why!.

Thanks, Graham.
I don't like to get too type-cast, Don.
