WATERING THE PLANTS

Watering the plants

we are taking control in small ways,

a diversion from the passing of days

self adminstering tiny chances of life

even if not our own

though we know some seeds will not survive.

They look up to me from their silly pots,

look up from soiled pillows eager for succour

like the mouths of fledglings

clinging on to moments

that persist while the sun goes down,

coming up again to show us the life we so admire.

Thank you Jon for reflecting on this. This became a focal point for me and my wife to use up time wisely so I'm glad you found favour with the idea. Best of luck with your yucca!

Hi Ray
I've found myself in this kind of mode recently also, worrying about my yucca in the corner, even down to buying baby bio and removing deadness... And she's picking up really well. It's given me a sense of pride too

Great thoughtful Poem Ray

Thanks for checking in Don.

Funnily enough Graham, this sort of care seems to be a good antidote at the moment . It's nice to be OCD at times!

Hi Jennifer.
How right that is, and therapeutic in direct ways. I think some of these plants demand pretty constant pampering , but what have we got to lose? Thanks!

Thanks for looking in Stephen

Nice one Ray! Taking control in small ways, self administering tiny chances of life ........ Very apt now in this pandemic, when we had completely lost control of our lives, livelihood, social life etc. etc. Most people with any kind of space here have been 'gardening', and somehow it is relaxing to see plants you have bought and looked after flourishing.

I am sure I wasn't the only one bringing in my young bean plants into the kitchen out of the wood/frost predicted the night before last.

I have a row of oak-choi peeping through who have the sense to keep tucked up a little longer too.

How paternal gardening can be like your words suggest here Ray.
