A Stroll Around Kirkby Lonsdale
A stroll around Kirkby Lonsdale with me
Take-away a bacon butty and a cup of tea
Start at Devils Bridge among the motorbikes
This is where we will begin our short hike
The pathway along the River Lune is our walk
Ending up the Radical Steps, breathless, unable to talk
A view made famous by Ruskin and Turner long ago
Across to Underley Hall and the Lune Valley below
Past the gazebo, an original Rectory garden folly
The graveyard adorned with wild flowers and holly
On gravestones, the stories of past lives are found
St Mary's Church, picturesque, set in peaceful grounds
Exit the wrought iron gates towards The Orange Tree
Across the road, The Methodist Church you can see
Around the corner The Sun Hotel and Kings Arms
Market Street reflects the towns historical charms
Pass Plato's, to where once stood the Market Cross
The Courthouse “Up the steps” can be seen across
The Old Manor House stands on the steep Mill Brow
Old mills converted, new homes built and lived in now
Back along the busy and bustling Main Street
More shops, banks, a bakery and places to eat
Red Dragon, Avanti,The Snooty Fox to name three
For breakfast, lunch, dinner or afternoon tea
Main Street is the place to do all your shopping
We amble along, just looking, no stopping
Eventually, we arrive at the Market Square
In the centre, a monument, we can sit and rest there
A former bank with a clock face can be seen
The Royal Hotel, named after a visit from a queen
The traditional sweet shop and the chemist too
On Jingling Lane you'll find the chippy and the loo
So much to see, so much we have missed
For your next visit, I have written you a list
Shop for clothes, jewellery, gifts for the home
