Soul and body purified
I had walked for miles
my feet were sore
I sat on the bank
of the little brook
rumbling through
the woodland
and rested for awhile
I took my boots
and socks off
then I dipped my
weary feet
in the saddle tan
coloured waters
of the stream
a shoal of
curious minnows
came and sweept
the soles of my feet
giving me an instant
tickling pedicure
oh what joy
whilst my feet
were being pampered
my eyes were
being entertained too
by fish leaping
out of water
and plucking flies
from the air
for a treat
by swooping swallows
giving
a masterclass
in aerial fly catching
by blackbirds
magpies
jays
robins
and thrushes
foraging in trees
when my feet were soothed
I put my socks
and boots
back on
I locked natures gifts
in my mind
and I was safely
guided back home
by the
sweet scents
of the woods
and the wild garlic
aromas drifting
in the gentle breeze
my soul
and body
were purified
