Fork In The Road
This little town
once thriving
is now just a fork in the road
no more bank
no more blacksmith shop
no general store
even the beer joint is gone
no more men coming to the gin
or selling eggs to the general merchandise
no more men with sweaty straw hats and overalls
no more men playing dominoes
at a broken-down table in the back
so people who come through
find the town by accident
and barely slow down at the fork
just two roads lead in
and one stop sign
cows outnumber the people
chickens outnumber the cows
just a fork in the road
now only with two tines
too small to count
too gone to care.

No worries, it's a great poem.
I've been on WoL for a few years now, but I don't post that many comments or likes. I dip in and out a bit, too. I love this forum, though, loads of great poems.
