My education

Way back when.

This is what I read.

The Hardy Boys, and Nancy Drew.

Highlight magizine, and the Funny pages to.

News headlines, and obituaries, the sports pages,

And commentaries.

As a boy,

I delivered the local news publication.

I was not good at formal education.

Never learned punctuation.

Or paragraph formation.

In fourth grade.

I turned in a book report on "The Cat in the Hat".

My teacher failed me for that.

In the library, I preferred to be.

Reading was easy for me.

When I read, visions I see.

The writer, I never inspired to be.

I always thought they needed a degree.

Writing was complicated.

Reading set me free.

I loved some teachers like a Mother,

Next to Mother, there was no other.

Teacher said " I can be who ever I want to be.

I said, Teacher..... I just need to be me !!!

If I failed while teaching myself.

Was I a bad student? or... was I a bad teacher....

JD.,
Another good poem. In particular I liked the words, "Writing was complicated Reading set me free". I think many would agree with you on this. I was below average at school but eventually arrived at Oxford University. Never give up JD
