He Came In Uninvited

He came in uninvited
under darkness of night
He came in undetected
sneaked in out of sight

He is so inconsiderate
one thing on his mind
Helps himself to food
any crumbs he can find

I have never met him
I don't know his name
I have never seen him
I know he is to blame

He lives here rent free
has the run of the house
He is not welcome here
that pesky little mouse

An engineer came to visit
took one look at the pipe
The evidence is clear to see
the repair bill is my gripe

I can not forgive or forget
my anger grows and grows
He chose not take the bait
Instead he ate the water hose

Thanks MC, I am very lucky to live surrounded by fields in a house built 1640. Once they get in the stone rubble built walls they can move around unheard or seen. This is the third time in 15 years one has chewed the dishwasher pipe. Got to take the rough with the smooth?. I am currently researching rodent proof pipes and pipe protection. ?

Entertaining piece of rhyme.
My flat is in a two hundred year old house here in central London and
there have been two complaints about mice (from different tenants - both women), one of whom magnified the creature to a rat ! I've seen mice - plus
a rat in a nearby street once during heavy rain flooding the drains and no
way can you mistake the two. About as likely as confusing Arnold
Schwarzenegger with Moe Farah!
Traps were laid for a number of weeks on both occasions but
failed to produce any result. I keep my place free of food in all ways
possible and have no complaints about their possible presence.
They've probably been "tenants" far long than my own quarter of a century.
