After Show Party

Just imagine the after show party
happening now in the sky above
Many greats have passed away
variety acts that we grew to love

Des O Connor the charming host
classic double act, Eric and Erne
Freddie Starr politically incorrect
Bobby Ball doing a comedy turn

Les Dawson playing out of tune
Ken Dodd waves a tickling stick
Brucie is playing his cards right
Tommy Cooper attempts a trick

Just some of the great performers
who entertained us in lots of ways
I bet they are having a blast tonight
sharing tales of the good old days

Oh yes Ray, forgot about Bob Monkhouse, he was a bit marmite! nice to hear your memories of time spent with him. Have you ever written about your time with any of them?

I know it's a liberty Julie, but I have to say that of all the people I worked with Bob Monkhouse was the most intelligent and clever with an audience. A craftsman at his art, writing all is own material . Sadly he was regarded as smarmy and too upper class for most of the funny men, and felt a bit out on the edge. I loved him as a thoroughly lovely guy! Off my chest now.

On with the coat.

Thank you for the likes and kind comments Ray and Stephen.
How wonderful Ray, nice to hear someone was as lovely as they seemed on and off screen. They put Bobby Balls name on Blackpool Tower tonight.

Hear hear Julie. I enjoyed this, let's hope there's truth in it. Without trying to be flash, my career as a pianist enabled me to work with or meet all your luvverly fellas. Les Dawson was the most approachable of them all, totally himself offstage and generous to a fault.

I'll get my coat.

Thanks, Julie. It sums up a whole generation, who were mostly very, very good. Most of them had such a great range e.g. Des O'Connor with his many albums and Ken Dodd singing 'Nessun Dorma' aged 80.
