Pearl Harbor
Out of the blue
the bombs reigned down
upon the sleeping
men and ships
and blew the harbor up
and ripped
the fleet apart
the balance tipped
No warning came
as men awoke
to find their lives
gone up in smoke
Pearl Harbor was
the target then
all hope was sunk
by grim Japan
Yet in the end
America awoke
and brought revenge
a giant poked
a mighty nation
with courage found
will to resist
and soon rebound
Americans
still rue this day
memories persist
of the price we paid
while hearts still hurt
filled with regret
this day recalled
Never Forget.

There are still rumours that it was known about through the code-
breaking of the time but it gave Roosevelt the opportunity to put
America into WW2 via a popular mandate. Wasn't it Japanese
Admiral Yamamoto who prophesied that Japan had woken a sleeping
giant? The president's words placed him alongside Churchill in
war's pantheon of powerful oratory: "December 7th 1941 - a day
that will live in infamy".
