Ars Poetica

the non-linguistic world speaks
(for want of a better word, call it music)
the linguistic world falls from indispensible
pole-sitter to back of the queue
(its own appraisal)
the least of all matters
hoping to hear feels much like fishing
the catch like the lightening strike
no one understands, least of all
the poet the poem

I like the name Poetica. I’ve sat in many classrooms and workshops where aspiring poets attempt to interpret meaning from poems. It’s fascinating and sometimes exhausting, but that’s part of the process and it’s true for me too that sometimes I don’t understand what my muse is trying to say, but I write it down anyway. Good piece that made me think!

I'm not entirely certain that I've understood the poem properly, but I like what I think it means. I'm imagining that lightning might strike quite a few times in the same place, and I have to feel relaxed about possibly not understanding the full or true meaning of the poem since the poet might not either.
