I am pro any religion that advocates harming no others or taking a life

Protecting the innocent, nurturing the lost and protecting wildlife

They come to my front door, knock, knock, knock for my attention

A personal invitation right from my doorstep to join their congregation

And generally the same question they are consistently asked by me

“I think all killing is wrong, tell me, does your religion agree?”

To be met with some solemn variation of confirmation to my enquiry

“Yes, of course, all life is sacred is central to our philosophy”

Smiling with genuine warmth next I ask, “so, you are all vegan then?”

Sensing now a vibe of some less goodwill to all women and men

“Er, no we are not vegan in our religion, that isn’t required”

“Doesn’t your god say not to kill?” Next needing to be enquired

“Yes, for sure he does, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t eat meat!”

Still smiling “Ahh, to do that without killing must be quite a feat”

At which point they will usually seem a little perturbed to say the least

That I should dare to question their right to enjoy a meaty feast

“Hey, I’m not judging here, do whatever floats your boat…

I’ll pass this time on your invite, shall we end on this note?”

Some of these guys get angry, others calmly true to their inner vision

Although I must admit one open-minded soul I did convert to veganism…
