My demon
1/4/2021
My demon visits me in the dark of the night and wraps its long arms and skinny fingers around my body
Lying in supine with no strength to claw its black hands off of me
Poking and prodding all of my uncertainty and panic of becoming reliant on anything but my new found routine
I try to yell and scream for help but my demon doesn't let me open my mouth
I wrap my hands around its fingers and fight with all my might but my demon visits me when I am sleeping peacefully, when I've let my guard down, it comes at night
Unable to move, yet some how I've slid off of my bed, head first into the darkness, seeking out where my heart is, and still my demon follows
It makes me feel hollow, trying to escape but my legs won't move, I've stopped trying to open my mouth to call for help because now I know only I can help myself
My demon follows and I find it in the hallway.
I open my eyes enough to see, a black shadow, a frame of darkness not much different from me
My demon visits the next night too, a quick sharp vision of that dark frame running towards me ready to attack, a view ready to break all that I've been trying to build from the wreckage piled on my shoulders and on my back
I open my eyes enough to see
And now I see
My demon is me.

Intriguing and slightly scary. A reminder that the demon can lie
within each of us, waiting for the dark times and the dark hours to
pay us a visit.
