NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR

Nineteen eighty four came and went

like any other year

big brother

and you never blinked an eye.

Some lessons to be learned no doubt

but within the context of raising expectations

Thatcher made her move

of which some wide boys did approve.

Some tokens were retained

like the numbers and the tags

redesigned by master computers

and then the issuing of voluntary credit cards

hey brother, if your credit's good

forget the working class game

join the claim to fame

put up your house as security

incentives work every time.

It all seems academic now

with everyone in masks

proles and intelligentsia alike.

So dear Eric behind your library walls

go take a hike.

Nice one! Didn't know about G O's name being Eric Blair.

Sorry for the delay - I thought it had vaporized.

Thanks Stephen and Lisa for looking in.

Thanks Brian - the answer is that George Orwell's real name was Eric Blair , nor relation of Tony. Although history will remember Tony Eric was more left wing than him.

Stephen, as you say we are watched but mainly by those with commercial interests, paying reduced taxes . If Orwell could see the TV reality series he would probably turn in his grave.

It was strange how 1984 passed by without much comment, but Big Brother is always out there, in some form, watching, waiting....

I think it was Eric that mystified us Ray. No-one asked who he was, including me.

My attempt to raise 1984 from the dead has fallen a bit flat obviously! But thanks for reading Lisa and Stephen, much appreciated.
