Let me control the media
The information given
May turn some peoples heads
We may believe we control what we are thinking
But who controls what we have read
When we make our informed choices
Do we think about our source
Or who employs the voices
Which try to shape our course
When we look at where we are
Do we not wonder how we came
To this place of isolation and division
And apportioning of blame
Could the pointing of our fingers
Toward the other
Have been led
By those who sit above us
Gaining ever more and getting better fed

Much that is topical to ponder here. Certainly, information is the new currency in many lives - and those that control it (and influence its content!) wield great power. No wonder the Australian government
feels it necessary to face up to Facebook. Personally, I have little
time for the stuff that exists on a site like that but I'm ready to admit
that it appeals to certain mindsets. But the risk is that the latter are
too easily influenced by what is called "social media" - hardly
indicative of a firm mental strength and wider awareness of what is
happening in this world of ours. These disciples of modern
electronic notice boards are akin to the Jesuit's belief: "Give me the
child and I'll give you the man". Not very comforting for intelligent
multi-understanding of life as it is being "programmed" for our consumption today.
