The Great Texas Snow Storm--a poem by O.L Buzzerd

Just gettin power back on

from the great Texas Snow Storm

which blanketed our little piece of heaven

and made it look real purdy like

but it also knocked out the power and lights

killed all the grass

and froze up the water dish in the chicken pen

not to mention activatin' my arthuritis

it was cold as ice up here in these mountains

with nuthin but cactus to stop the wind

but luckily I had my 4 dogs

to keep me warm under the blankets

all of em slept wit me in my double-wide

we won't say what happened under the sheets

but needless to say it smelt up the place

from now on

no beans for them dogs

them were like 4 factories putting out bad air

i don't like to complain none

but it'll take a week to get rid of that there putrid smell

in the meantime

the roads are froze

the mailman ain't runnin

and the grocery store is closed

so it is when the whole dang state shuts down

i need a shot of Jack Daniels

to help me forget this whole mess

especially that dang dog smell

hard to tell which smells worse

them dogs

or this poem.

(I reckon you won't see poetry like this in any poetry books.)

Dog-gone it! Hardly a "bed of roses" over there in the Lone(ly) Star
State!! Did you upset someone in Montana to get that nasty northerly?! ?
