GENERATIONAL
After World War Two in a ration-ridden rubble strewn land
The baby-boomers arppeared and quickly made their stand..
With a parental generation that had shown the world the best,
They in turn showed their intention to be up to the crucial test
To drag this nation up by its bootstraps to prosper once again
And see a land that was on its knees stand on its feet and obtain
A future that was bright for all - living and yet to be born,
Nothing seemed impossible - nothing seemed forlorn.
But somehow since along the way those that followed fell
To self-pity and selfish entitlement that has never boded well
For any people worth their salt and deserving of success..
There came this alienation and a sense of even less
Than what was promised years ago when there was little to bless.
That generation who stood upon the shoulders of those before
And saw new life and hope spring forth from the ruins of a war
Now look upon a nation that sees envy and division
Promoting distrust in everything, full of disbelief and derision..
I think of Yeats' "The Second Coming" with its closing prophesy
Of the uncouth beast he saw born again and wrote for us to see.

Unfortunately too true. The hope they had and the hard work they did to achieve it are now scorned. We want it all and we want it now.
