My Church
My church
The harsh climate
Yellow grass underfoot
Red rocks
Gumtrees
Salt water
Freshwater
Any body of water
Just take me there
An orchestra of cicadas
Kookaburras laughing hysterically
Such unique and beautiful surroundings are among us
Big cities
Are exciting— beautiful
Rich with culture and history
But they make me tired quickly
When I realise that nature is not at my doorstep
I begin my day
And go for a run
Up the mountain— on the beach or — around the lake
It’s not just about the exercise
Cause if it was
I could just go to the gym
It’s about seeing the morning sun
Or the fog lifting off the water
Smelling the rain that has drenched the leaves
Being woken up by the commanding squak of the cockatoos
Feeling stones under my shoes
And cold rain on my skin
And saying hello to Kangaroos
Who endear and amaze me
No matter how many time I see them
Nature is the place
Where I am at peace
It’s where I belong
An oasis that has me feeling both humbled and strong
No matter my mood
The weather
Or the ups and downs in my life
Through thick and thin
In sickness and in health
This is my church
