Seal Pups
Large liquid brown eyes
Gaze up from the ice,
From sweet downy faces
On bodies of white fur.
Thousands of seal pups
Along with their mothers
Stretch out for miles
On the frozen shorelines,
A commodity of Canada.
Oh, but to visit and experience
This wonderful wildlife first hand!
But how to support a country
That fund their fisherman
To swarm from boats
Branding clubs and guns?
Every spring I read of the carnage,
The senseless, barbaric
Blood on ice,
My own blood turns cold
And I cry for those babies.
Every year it happens
I pray it will be the last
But it just goes on
And on…
And on…
