17½
She gazes at her reflection in the mirror
And pokes out her tongue,
There are even more freckles on her nose
Than she noticed yesterday.
One by one she pulls out hairpins
That each held up a curl,
Tresses cascade around her shoulders,
She brushes until straight.
All that money at the salon,
Hoping to look a little older,
Only to then discover
He likes the natural look.
It is so hard being in love
With a boss ten years older,
When she is seventeen and a half
But only looks fifteen.
Working with him in the office
Has left her yearning, restless.
She takes the family dog to the park
While Mum is cooking dinner.

He changes into jeans and trainers,
Any old thing will do.
He decides to take his dog to the park,
He feels restless, incomplete.
His job was uncomplicated
Until a month ago,
Before a funny, scatty teenager
Turned his world upside down.
Across fields and heading for the lake,
He can hardly believe it’s her!
There she is, hair blowing away free.
His restraint must do the same.
So young is she, yet with eyes of love,
She is everything he needs.
Caution surely must have been made
To simply throw to the wind.
A husky and a collie meet in the park,
They run around each other,
Their leads become entangled.
Oh, what fun they have!
It is odd that no one checks them,
Their owners’ attention missing.
Four brown eyes look up in disgust,
What ARE they doing, kissing?!

Thanks Bernadette, yes, I do remember the coffee ad, I think Stefan is remembering my sequels to the Angel poem though. As I said, I hadn't originally planned a sequel to this, but what the heck, I am just about to post it now!! xxx
