Little Crowtown
Little Crowtown
Little Crowtown is a place
I go to in my mind
It’s ten miles off the beaten track
And very hard to find
I guard all of its secrets well
just invite the chosen few
who will respect its heritage
good folk like me and you
It has a quant olde English pub
And a tea shop for cream teas
A curry house from Kashmir
And a place that deals in cheese
An emporium of vinyl records
And another selling books
A little pond with willow trees
An oak tree full of rooks
A cornflower sea laps at its shore
Of pristine golden sand
A stony path leads to a cove
We walk it hand in hand
And as the sunset casts its shimmer
Over the fields of swaying corn
We count our blessings peacefully
And thank God that we were born
So when the times are dark and bleak
Much like they are right now
I go to Little Crowtown
And I make a heartfelt vow
To enjoy the simple pleasures
That weave its twisted streets
In the alleyways and courtyards
Where the heart of England beats
No place here for the fascist,
The litterer or lager lout,
The racist and the sexist
Will all be safely locked out.
There will be a little sign
That only the enlightened will see.
‘This way to a better life
To Little Crowtown-by-the sea’
