Smart As A Rock

To dig a hole

is back-breaking work

by hand

by shovel

load after load

of dirt piles up

then solid rock is hit

a shelf of rock makes it too hard

to go any further

I try a crowbar

then a hammer

still no good

finally I come to terms

I surrender

to the monolithic rock

you win

I tell the rock

I will let you be

then I simply move over

and dig another hole

now rock is happy

and so am I

I outsmarted the rock

and am just as stubborn.

Nice! Just slightly anxious to know WHY you needed to dig such a deep hole?!
