AT 68 ( FOR DEBORAH )
AT 68 (FOR DEBORAH)
Older than rain falling from winter sky
Older than light breaking-open the darkness
Older than speck of birds shadowing distant mountains
Yes, older than the first-born star, older than all of this
The biology of eternity is embedded in our skin,
Blood to blood, clan to kin, a tiny grain of time within.
Oh, how we danced soul to soul, skin to skin
Across the escarpment of years, we found each other
In all our joy and suffering, in all our fervor and beauty
Singing from the very depths of our aliveness
Crossing the borders into the endless country of the heart
Ageless in the blaze of love burning through our days.

The whole is a lovely poem for Deborah, but embedded within it is this segment which is (literally) universal, and could be a stand-alone poem.
0lder than the first-born star, older than all of this
The biology of eternity is embedded in our skin,
Blood to blood, clan to kin, a tiny grain of time within.
