The General Public
What are all the general public like?
Do they care and are they kind?
Do they think about themselves,
Or have they others on their mind?
Are they going to their work,
Or are they looking round the shops?
Are they travelling by foot or by car,
Or do they get on and off bus stops?
Do they really feel happy?
Or are they secretly afraid?
Do they like being outside,
Or wish at home is where they'd stayed?
Should they see someone in trouble
Would they give a helping hand?
And would this be unexpected,
Or would it have been planned?
And when we are on the streets
We deserve to feel safe and secure.
And always remember to be polite,
So hold open that door.

The last line is a very apt pay-off. Common courtesy is the
lubricant that oils and eases the daily grind of life.
