Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

The First Of September

The potted plant colours are fading
and the acer trees are turning brown
There’s a chillier feel to the day
and I am feeling a little down

Next doors veg plot has been turned over
and the school fields are mown and ready
I can’t believe August is over
and September is here already

Children prepare for the new school year
Covid chaos means further delays
There are calls for more student testing
as they return over staggered days

We pass through the seasons of the year
Covid continues to make headlines
Though restrictions are mostly lifted
we still live in these new normal times

It is the first day of Autumn
and I wonder, where did the Summer go
As we drift along towards Winter
with the promise of rain, sleet and snow

The hedgerow flowers are fading
and the woodland trees are turning brown
There’s a chillier feel to the day
and I am feeling a little down

I prefer to think of 21st September as the start of autumn, Julie. This can be a great month for weather and then there are the lovely colours of autumn leaves to look forward to. So things can only get better.

We all tend to feel a little down, when leaves turn brown, Julie. But there'll always be brighter days! Nice cuppa tea & a sneaky bit cake ?

Try to remain optimistic as the year turns. Read Binyon's "The Burning of the Leaves". It's a wonderful antidote for any "down"
feelings.around this time. As for me, I merely say -
Let us help refuel
Nature's renewal! ?
