PLANTING UP THE FIELDS

Fields are seeded with bricks and dust

into sterile rows, fast tracked they rise

to vex the spirit, damn the eyes

with promises for a brighter future

seeds that flourish in the developers' pot.

A showhouse lights the eager way

where saplings attend in vivid green,

a man with tablet is often seen

with figures ready on a folding screen.

Flocks of birds have turned their backs,

no treetops now to cloud the view;

children never will again ascend

canopies with chafing shins,

instead play games

where only the good guy ever wins.

Thanks Mark . Yes, common sense doesn't really come into these designed ghettoes. It's up to councils to evaluate the overall benefits, which are constantly under appeal from the developers who never give up without a fight, which they can afford. I get steamed up. When is a greenfield site not a greenfield site: when it is subject to housing, simple as.

The housing recently built has been marked by a lack of real
understanding pf what makes a "community" work and prosper.
Absurd to build rows of homes without any thought to the
needs of, and services to its potential residents. Even worse
when that lack of basic common sense is exacerbated by these
being placed on green field locations that are lost forever to future generations. Like some man-made desert in a natural oasis!!!

It seems that only houses are being planted in the fields these days.

Thanks Stephen, I must have missed that beaver reference ! Yes, that's another word that has been rescheduled by the whizzo tech boys.

Thanks Mark for drawing those parallels, truth therein.

Ray

and thank you John, Stephen and Holden for your likes.

A successor to a title like "The Wasteland" seems entirely
appropriate. We can only hope that brownfield is given
priority over greenfield in any government approved building
plans for the future. My memory goes back to a big hit song
of years ago: "Green Fields". It could become a very apt
anthem for today.

Or building a better beaver, whatever that meant. Almost certainly nothing, or worse. There is something quite biblical about the man with tablet, Ray.

Well spotted, Greg! The trouble with government is that is a disparate combination of different interests that in the end cancel each other out while making noises ! Of course we do have Kappelmeister Boris to make the ultimate decisions. (Like building a better Britain).

And then they name all the streets after the natural life that they have destroyed there, don't they, Ray?
