Plastic Bags
When the wind blows
you see the plastic bags
snagged in trees
hung up on fences
bags clustered in piles
shouting their insults
some people notice
others don't care
they skip along the streets
they pile up in corners
they tell us which way
the wind blows
flags of our culture
banners of commerce
of convenience
people get used to ugliness
plastic becomes us
we overlook it
after a while
we pay it no mind
when the ocean is full
and all the streets and highways
are covered in plastic
we will be conquered
soon to surrender
wave our white plastic bags.
