Monkey Rock
Born thousands of years ago
but still magnificent, in his prime
Majestic in stance and stature
he has weathered well, over time
He sees every sunrise
does not shelter from the midday sun
He basks in the evening sunset glow
when the day is nearly done
From his commanding view point
he can see far across land and sea
Watching over our Turkish town
there’s nothing he does not see
In the old days he’d count small fishing boats
to pass the time of day
Nowadays it’s huge super yachts
that dominate the sweeping bay
His eyes drift over the landscape
past the old, redundant windmills
As far and wide as he can see
luxurious villas dot the hills
There is a new, opulent marina
so lavish and pristine
Where the designer shops and nightclubs
are the places to be seen
There is always something new to view
in this busy little bay
Transforming and adapting
shifting and reshaping day by day
From his seat high up on the hillside
he wonders as he looks down
Is he the only constant
of this ever changing Turkish town
