The Clock tells the same Time

The Clock tells the same Time

A haunting melody spoke of a time long ago

A time of great suffering now barely remembered

A violin alone was able to take people back into a darkness

To a time of persecution and torment

As cattle trucks transported people to their deaths

War crimes, when is war not a crime?

Humanity debased itself in a blanket of hatred and perversion

The violinist caught the solemnity and mood of all present

Some recalled those times as others sobbed silently

Jews, Romanies, Jehovah's witnesses, homosexuals, priests, socialists,

communists, subversives and dissenters

Formed a long line to the death chambers

The violin played on as those present looked around

At the world about them, others who were present

They saw a remnant, a memory of survivors

But so many now long forgotten

names on walls, monuments and graves

It has not ceased to be, it continues

In a world where lessons are not learned

Synagogues are burned, churches vandalised, gays reviled,

Romanies segregated by prejudice and more

The violinist reawakened many souls to an awful reality

The world has not changed, people are corralled into belief systems

By manipulative dictators of which there are many

Human suffering is created mostly by ourselves.

We are to blame, there is no one else

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi:

miserere nobis

Amen

Very true, Keith.
Our civilisation
Is but a thin veneer
I fear!

You are right, Keith. All war is a crime and all warped ideologies lead us down this horrible path, again and again. Thank you for posting this.
