SO….
So, it's starting to piss me off - the current fashion for starting off an answer with "So". Its taken over from random "Likes" in limited vocabularies. So, pack it in!

I have a similar dislike, inclusive of the word *so* and that is when someone describing a conversation with someone else
( obviously! 😁 ) tells of it in this way-
SO he turned round to me and says...blah blah blah
and SO I turned round to him and says....blah blah blah
what I would like to know is, since when did people start having conversations back to back? 😏
Far out and outta sight, m'man.
JC - would that have been a "parsing phase".? So, what's new in language use?. Like man, it's flexible and used for effect, daddy-o..
Know what I mean, John?! 😍
Thanks, MC. Many years ago when the bow and arrow was a secret weapon and I was a pre-pubescent at the Grammar School we studied completely pointless subjects like Latin and Greek Mythology. And Parsing. This entailed recognising the role of words and phrases in any sentence eg subject, verb object, adverbial qualification etc. When it starts an answer, the word “so” has no purpose whatsoever.
So, why say so? 😃
I like to use it like an beckoning finger to encourage a response to the question it raises.
Quite, Flyntland. My main objection is that “So…” is completely superfluous. It has no meaning whatsoever (like “Like”).
So like wot's wrong wiv it
don't get yer knickers in a twist
just go along wiv it.
like so wot's your prob.
like cumon grandad relax unbend
so like it's up to us to set the trend.
Just like Martin Peters, Graham - 5 years ahead of your time.
Yep I agree JC. Here's my haiku from 2017
so illiterate
don’t start a sentence with so
stupid so-and-so

Stop it, Bethany. You’re making me laugh and I’ve got a cracked lip.
