Queues, queues, queues
It’s the most wonderful time of the year
But for who?
Those who can’t pay for gas and electric
It’s the same old tired songs that pour out
Of every outlet
Every café bar
In every town
Where shop staff in red and green
Looking like shelf stacking zombies
Try to ignore the fight for carrots in aisle 5
And the guy that’s at the back gate
As queues form at checkouts
And in lines of cars trying to escape
The glitter belled jingle jolly
Shouted out in wordy smiles and
Give us your money
Cash or card we will take it all
Anything will do
But can you take your screaming kids
And bursting at the seams trolleys away
We are just shut for one day
So we know you will be back
But the siege has begun
And will start again New Year’s Eve
With left -over turkey and mince pies
And enough booze and food to stock an army
So, form a queue gently now
Before the next one is due to take your old
Well- worn tree down to the dump
Along with inflatable sagging santa’s
And plastic mistletoe
And sack loads of rejected paper
Queues queues, queues
It’s the most wonderful time of the
YEAR !!
