2023: Trev returns to Texas for National Poetry Month incorporating NaPoWriMo: Part 6 Lamesa to Midland
Image: Tarja and Laurel at KCKM Radio my first port of call after breakfast.
13.04.23 – 107:69) Time to depart with heavy heart
But smile when I think about yesterday
When I found out, I’d been wearing my socks inside out
GPS seems to work without a hitch, by passin’ the on/off switch
Roads is quiet soon I’m in Midland but one thing makes me sore
Gas here is more
Lamesa $3.33 Midland $3.49 how can this be
No worries for now find my motel but can’t book in while two
What I find out makes me blue, no breakfast, no coffee, no iron too
Something tells, me this year I made a poor choice of motels
108:70) Time for breakfast, call at Denny’s
Ideal when you’re watchin’ the pennies
Nice an a reasonable price
Scrambled eggs, sausage an’ pancakes so fillin’ To pay the price I’m willin’
Cos’ I’m full an’ think with a smile I’ll not want anything else for a while
109:71) Time a plenty, I’m on the I-20 a steady run in the morning sun
Radio on, lisenin’ to the station I’m appearin’ on
Real country style, mile after mile
Soon I’m there, welcomed by Tarja, with Laurel I,m on air
I tell the listeners where I’m from an what goes down in my home town
Over here how far I’ve come. Where I’ve been what I’ve seen
An’ it goes like a dream as I’m given time to present my rhyme
Hopefully people’s enthusing as some poems are serious, some amusing
The hour goes so fast. It’s a shame it don’t last
An’ Laurel makes it clear, she’d love to have me back next year
An’ I’m drivin’ away thinkin’ up my next score
Listenin to KCKM once more
110:62) Booked in at the motel didn’t dwell
Needed to get some downloadin’ done so to the library I run
Photos to my album poems to my blog
Make sure it’s all up to date an’ I’m not late
Getting’ it out an’ about so it can be read
An’ my friends is knowing how things is going
I can say they’re goin’ alright,
An’ I got a gig at Ector County Library tonight
111:63) It seemed nobody was gonna come but I weren’t glum
Room looked swell laid out so well but only four of us no more
But we’re not gonna go, we’ll put omn our own lii’l show
So I was still cock-a-hoop with our small group
Reminded me of the time I once spoke my rhyme
Two poets an’ an audience of one
But the show went on. recitin’ as if the room was full
An' he thanked us for our effort an’ dedication when we were done
So when put to the test, give your best
Cos when all said an’ done if your performin’ makes just one person smile
Then your performin’ is all worthwhile.
