Climate Change
Climate Change
We are living in a house which is on fire.
The fire has spread wildly and cannot be extinguished.
It has not yet reached our room.
We hear sirens, smell smoke and hear cries.
Death and doom are knocking on our door.
There is no fire escape, we are unprepared.
The fire extiguishers are old and do not work.
We have never read the fire escape drill.
Practise evacuations were thought of as fun.
Now it is too late.
We have been passive observers of our own demise.
No longer is there a future for any of us.
We might as well have lit the blue touch paper ourselves.
Day and night remain, floods and drought abound.
The economy is in turmoil, even the wealthy despair.
We have plundererd the rain forests.
The oceans are filled with our plastic waste.
Fossil fuels have propelled and choked us.
Respiratory illnesses kill the old and young alike.
We try to make amends, but it too little too late.

Thank you for this powerful piece, Keith. The consequences of man-made climate change are already here, as you graphically describe.
We have to do our best to turn things round, although it is already very, very late.
