I had the pleasure of doing a week with Mike Yarwood in the eighties and he was the most pleasurable and nice man into the bargain. Rubber faced, silken voiced and kind. Sadly the drink spoke too often to him and he would go off piste and lose his place in the flow but of course come back to it.

To obtain over 20 million TV viewers for a show as a single performer in the UK is an extraordinary achievement and only the double act of Eric and Ernie can compare on that score.
As a lad in Stockport he was a local hero - Wilson, Heath, Robin Day, Frank Spencer, Ken Dodd… he was the master & an inspiration for all who followed…
SG - I especially recall his Ted Heath.....with those shaking shoulders and that trademark rictus smile!
He definitely was, MC. His Harold Wilson was uncanny.

Ray - I recall mention that he suffered from "nerves" and that
would certainly supply a reason for partaking of the drink. There
have been other notable acts who have had the same problem.
With that in mind, perhaps it's amazing he reached the age he did.
