Somewhere
Gaza: a father beats the floor in grief
As he feels his son’s last desperate breath.
It seems indecent to say any more,
As when, that evil Saturday morning,
A Holocaust survivor was cut down
During a crimson-coloured bout of rage.
I tell myself: this cannot be the best
That humankind has to offer. One day,
The innocent will inherit the Earth,
The puffball types in uniform will stumble
And the corporate fat cats will no longer
Sign for the next batch of killing machines,
And most of all there’ll be no place to hide,
No ‘somewhere’ for the ones who do not care.

It occurs to me that this is the reverse of "Somewhere" in West Side Story. There should be no "somewhere" to hide for those responsible, no place for them.
Thanks, Graham. Yes, sadly, the combination of fatigue and the "competing" news agenda has pushed the Ukraine War of the front pages. It is seen to be a bit boring, although not if you live there!
Thanks, Uilleam. It's all a bit sad.
And thanks to Nigel, Frederick, John C, Manish, K Lynn and Jon for liking.
