Pam Ayres to appear at Morecambe poetry festival
Pam Ayres will be appearing at Morecambe poetry festival later this year, it has been announced. The festival, which has become known for its blend of top names and grassroots poetry, will be held in September. Other big names already on the bill include Mike Harding, Nigel Planer, Insta poet sensation Donna Ashworth, and Henry Normal.
Pam Ayres is not a name you would normally associate with poetry festivals – but Morecambe is not your average poetry festival. She is a poet, comedian, songwriter and presenter of radio and TV programmes, who was discovered in the 1970s on the TV talent show Opportunity Knocks – a moment that punk poet John Cooper Clarke has cited as being highly influential on his own career. Her poem ‘Oh, I Wish I'd Looked After Me Teeth’, was voted into the Top 10 of a BBC poll to find the nation's 100 Favourite Comic Poems.

Indeed. Ms Ayres was mentioned years ago as the Poet Laureate that should have been. Her material gives huge pleasure to
many, probably the reason why the "poetry industry" has been described as the enclave of the self-indulgent and wretched
and is so far removed from public esteem or even consideration.
