I’m Not Good With Titles
Vet med is funny
One minute your checking a puppy out after vaccines
The next minute you’re holding it all together
Trying to be strong for the 18 year old cat
The one that was left by their owners
Left to say goodbye to this cruel world
Alone and scared
From a healthy, brand new kitten
To running a hit by car patient to the back
Trying your best to keep your composure
Honestly not even sure if they’re going to make it
Through everything that comes in the front door we’re expected to smile
We’re expected to act as though we didn’t just lose a long time patient
The pup you saw from 8 weeks old to 12 years
The cat that was rescued and given a chance
Only to get cancer and pass 6 months later
The nastiness from the clients
The belittling, swearing and anger
And yet we have to wear that smile as though nothing wrong ever happens
We have absolutely no idea what someone is going through
Life wise or work wise
Behind closed doors, right out in the open
And who are we to judge
Everyone is battling something
Everyone is just trying to get through today and the day after that
There is so much hatred
So much disapproval, misdirected frustration
Just take a minute to think how someone might feel
Before you get angry with them over something they can’t control
Think about what they may be going through
Day in and day out
We’re all just trying to get by
Alone, but all together on our own path

I was overwhelmed by this poem, jjesicca. It is hard to imagine the feelings of vets, animals and the owners who bring them in.
Thanks for this insight. It really got me thinking.
