I’m gonna win big, so big, this time;

I’ll notch up a record score.

There’s no way, trust me, there’s no way

That the other side will get more.

Our democracy is sacred,

To say otherwise is a sin;

So I will accept the verdict,

Provided, of course, that I win!

If I should lose, I will cry foul,

Alleging there was massive fraud;

I don’t need any evidence –

If I come second, then it’s flawed!

I’ll send fine people on the streets,

To kick out the other guy;

We’re living in a post-truth world,

So why can’t I have my Big Lie?

Terrifying, but increasingly likely.

Nice one, Stephen.

I don't think I said that we could, MC.

If I were in the US Republican Party I'd be keeping the closest
watch on the supervision of postal votes and voter ID in the
coming presidential election. Can't have dead people voting, can we? 😏

Thank you, MC. The purpose of this poem was to gently satirise the fact that Trump still claims he won the 2020 election, even though this is an obvious lie. Having just seen him say that there will be a 'bloodbath' if he doesn't win this time, I think the tone was much too gentle. I'll correct that next time.

So, it's all doom and gloom if Trump regains the presidency. But
I recall how he confronted the sabre-rattling North Korean dictator and forged an unlikely understanding where others
feared to tread. And then there was that memorablr moment
caught on film when upon shaking hands with Putin, Trump
playfully pulled him off his feet, like some rag doll, with a big
smile on his face. Strong men - including dictators - like to
know they're not alone and face their opposite numbers with
a certain degree of unspoken acknowledgement that can create
better things for the rest of us. Trump had no need for the
behind the scenes financial inducements that can corrupt
political campaigns in the hands of "career" politicians in the
political history of the USA. Go back to New York's Tammany Hall and move on via the crooked politicos of Chicago et al and Mafia/Giancana influences in the Kennedy campaign. Compared with that lot, and the Clinton (I did not have sex with that woman), incumbency, Trump may be no angel but his no-nonsense style found a responsive chord in a disillusioned
American electorate. And "Woke" he is not!

Thank you, Graham, John C, Landi and Ray for the comments. The really terrifying thing is that he could win without having to cry fraud or getting his mates to invade the Capitol. I think you hit on a good point, Ray; Trump represents darkness, cynicism and a total lack of generosity to others. Even his former VP, Mike Pence, will not endorse him, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. In a way, I still want to laugh at the guy, except that it isn't funny any more.

And my thanks to Hugh, Holden, Manish, K Lynn, Bethany, John GE and Rob for their support - much appreciated.

I think you've expressed the dark side of human nature at its most heinous Stephen; the world surely shudders from what must be a threat too big to contain. It's bad enough with Putin's elimination of opposition, but this buffoon takes the biscuit.

It's a tragedy, really. There are bright minds who, collectively, could show us through our dark night. But we are conditioned by our education to respond like Pavlov's dog to stimuli that are only superficially identifiable--they don't have our needs at heart but through some cheap tricks of rhetoric, they subvert the minds of whole packs.

This is party politics at its worst. If the American people would do the research, they would find that their blessed father, G. Washington, foretold the pitfalls of such a system.

Indeed, Stephen. It’s interesting that in several YouTube clips, when MAGAs were asked when America had been great they had difficulty answering.

The world waits and shudders!
