Who Cares

What happened in the Middle East?

They argue but no one agrees.

Yet steadily the deaths increased,

and you think that’s ok? Oh please!

People dying in their tents,

a country crying, on its knees,

yet we supply the armaments,

and you think that’s ok? Oh please!

A war by any other name,

it still means killing and disease.

For some it seems like just a game,

and you think that’s ok? Oh please!

They don’t live there, they just exist

to thirst and hunger by degrees;

the depredations still persist,

and you think that’s ok? Oh please!

It’s racial cleansing at its worst,

and diplomats trot out with ease

those platitudes, so well rehearsed,

and you think that’s ok? Oh please!

Regrettably, the supply of armaments is a global industry and
those set against each other will get their weapons from whatever source appeals the most. The basic problem is more
to do with a state of mind and a failure to behave in a peacable
conciliatory manner. This appears a prominent feature of certain
parts of the world that is busy exporting its failings to other lands.

The repetition of the last line helps this poem make a big impact, Trevor. A fine piece of work.
