As a small "c" conservative, I have two lingering memories of
Labour in power. The boast about making the pips squeak amongst voters and the farewell jibe about leaving no cash in
the government account when giving way to the incoming Tory administration. Thus, the concept of Starmer et al becoming
dependable guardians of the nation's finances is hard to envisage! Promises from politicians are like alibis provided by
lawyers' imaginations to convince the credulous in court. And
as a former very prominent lawyer, Starmer is well placed for
awareness in that particular respect.

Very true - All been said before. Promises will be made and broken. Unfortunately politics is a necessary evil.
