WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE KIDDING, MR STARMER?

entry picture

Who do you think you are kidding Mr Starmer

If you think old Rishi’s done?

We are the boys who smashed down your North Red Wall

We are the boys who will bring about your fall;

So who do you think you are kidding Mr Starmer

If you think the voting’s won?

We don’t care about Lib Dems cos they will not perform

The Nationalists are shafted; we don’t care about Reform.

Who do you think you are kidding Mr Starmer

If you think old Rishi’s done?

We don’t acknowledge food banks and that poverty exists

We don’t acknowledge NHS extensive waiting lists.

So who do you think you are kidding Mr Starmer

If you think the voting’s won?

The rats are jumping from this ship with one or two turncoats

No flights yet to Rwanda and no let-up of the boats.

Who do you think you are kidding Mr Starmer

If you think old Rishi’s done?

We might be 20 points behind in most election polls

I blindly carry on though digging deeper in this hole

So who do you think you are kidding Mr Starmer

If you think the voting’s won?

Thankyou, Stephen, MC and Trevor. As I said to Keith, Trevor, the answer is simple. Stand yourself.

A nice piece of whimsy JC. As often happens with elections these days, I find it difficult to believe any of them are worth voting for. 😕

I'm not convinced that your analogy with the well-known ("Disgusted of) Tunbridge Wells" is appropriate. Those readers
of the DT will hardly have been fans of Tories who have been so singularly inept when it comes to the duty of protecting
the nation's borders and the well-being/welfare of the
country's indigenous inhabitants, with damaging pressures brought to bear on the essential services of housing, education and health. The current wheeze about national service is just
an extension of modern Tory self-delusions. In short, the
wrong sort of people have found their way into politics and
are making a mockery of their privileged positions almost by
rote. A clear-out of this dead-wood is needed across all the
major UK political parties..

Thank you for this fun piece, John. There seems to be a point (1997, 2010) when governments reach their expiry date and there's nothing anyone can do.

I’m afraid they have returned to those old fashioned Tory values, MC. Take conscription - a policy with zero chance of being enacted. Why else have reduced the armed forces? Answer - it appeals to the voters of Tunbridge Wells.
Take small boats. Last year immigration to the UK stood at 1.2m. Small boat immigration was 29,000. But no matter- it panders to Tunbridge Wells.
Get ready for the phrases “capital and corporal punishment” to raise their heads.

Another top pastiche from this ever inventive source. How apt
that it was the guy from The Crazy Gang who sang the original
for our entertainment. We are certainly in crazy times as we
approach the 2024 election. It is my view that the only hope for
the Tories is to show signs of a return to their original core conservative (with a small "c") values, with a distinct opportunity
for a return to the Tory fold of Reform Party members who are disaffected/disenchanted Tories fed up with what has happened
to their political party in recent times and its alienation from the
electorate as a result.

Thankyou, Greg, Keith and Graham.
Before, actually, Greg. I fear I may be the Brains behind Conservative election thinking!
The solution is obvious, Keith. Upset the status quo by standing for Parliament yourself; you’ll just need another 20,000 people to agree with you.
This is indeed, Graham, a good election to lose.

Looking forward to Sir Kier getting in and making a mess in time for Queen Penny ( her of the mighty sword ) to come after and vanquish the redbellies!

John,
I enjoyed this poem but must confess to have lost all interest in British politics in recent years. The democracies of the West, including our own, are in the main two party states which is hardly representative of the views of most people. If a one party state is a dictatorship, then what do we call a two party state?
Thank you,
Keith

Presumably written after hearing the news of the PM's National Service wheeze, John? As Capt Mainwaring might have said: 'You stupid boy, Sunak'.
