THE WAITING
By the intense breath of the miner's lamp light
my mind is focussed, body as mind
supported by a thought so strong
it becomes my essence, my reasoning.
Bring light and love to her I say
a pause for the light then:
bring light and love to her I say
intoned for a seamless eternity
while the unwavering eye watches me.
I can see the master planner in the small anteroom
his green loose workwear as he stands and we sit
to hear a resume, the results of fasting,
of internal investigations, listening to his
measured tone of guarded optimism.
The photographs, booklet of explanations
we take away down drawn out corridors to the exit.
Now we wait for the next move.

An interesting and thoughtful comment David. I personally have used a miner's lamp for concentration and meditation as it is unwavering . The ceremony as such involved the NHS and was quite daunting shall we say.....
