Needship
In this age of fleeting connections,
friendship wears a mask of needship,
the more you seek, the brighter the smile,
till the moment of need fades,
and the warmth turns cold.
People gather like moths to flame,
drawn by the glow of talent, skill,
a little love, a dash of fortune—
all essential ingredients
for a recipe of companionship.
Needier souls,
they come alive at a beckoning call,
a snap of fingers, an urgent text,
and there they stand,
ready to fulfill your wish,
like magicians conjuring presence
from thin air.
But when the need is sated,
when the cup is emptied,
they vanish into the ether,
a soft whisper of what once was,
searching anew,
for the next opportunity,
the next need to be met.
Is it greed that fuels this dance?
Greedy for your laughter,
your time, your resources,
a transactional exchange,
where friendship becomes a ledger,
and kindness, a currency spent.
Needs ebb and flow,
like tides against the shore,
but once fulfilled,
the shore is left bare,
the footprints washed away,
and in the silence,
the echoes of camaraderie fade,
only to be replaced by
the search for the next willing soul.
Thus, in this modern mosaic,
friendship wears the cloak of need,
and the heart longs for more,
yearning for a bond that transcends
the shallow waters of needship,
a connection that dares to dive deeper,
beyond the surface of want,
into the realm of true belonging.
