Your chance to take the stage: Write Out Loud's poetry jam at Marsden jazz festival!

entry picture

Write Out Loud returns to Marsden in West Yorkshire for its popular annual open mic poetry jam at the jazz festival on 13 October 11am-1pm. This year we are delighted to have secured a fantastic new venue at Marsden Socialist Club, which boasts a licensed bar, ample seating and to top it all a stage. Last year, poets gathered to remember Paul Blackburn, a very dear friend and regular supporter of this event, and a key member of the website team in its early years, who will always be sorely missed. We heard moving tributes to Paul mixed with wry humorous poetry he’d have loved, in what turned out to be an outstanding line-up of poets.

Write Out Loud's legendary poetry jam at Marsden jazz festival began in 2010. It was launched by Write Out Loud's co-founder and director, Julian Jordon, who compered it for many years.

Write Out Loud encourages performance and open-mic poetry, so whether you are a seasoned John Cooper Clarke or just finding your feet, you will be very welcome on our stage and guaranteed a warm and supportive audience.

To finish off the open-mic, ease yourself into a sunny afternoon of jazz with a couple of songs from All4One, a close harmony quartet that specialises in humour. This year you can listen to their very own take on the Post Office scandal.

So dig your poems out or just come along and listen – you’ll be very welcome!

The jazz festival runs from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 of October and information about what’s on can be found here
