September 2024 Collage Poem: Calming Mellowness
Love, care and compassion is what you need to show.
Two halves of life, older than sleep's womb
The imaginery giraffe in his dishevelled hat
trumpeted his inherited memory of a unicorn.
Messaging each other pecking away at our personal history
Barking dogs burrow into white chalk cliffs as the muted dead
turn under Stockport bus station
A Porcelain Moment as the clouds cracked open
to reveal the Northern Star
Lie down in the grass and watch the northern star
for this fragment of time the field is mine
This land is mine, England made me.
Arcs return to each other, lost in the white heat
I was sixteen and could not think of the future,
but I hope those in South Africa would run free
in poetic beauty, and all would be good in a future life,
as someone else wrote in hindsight.
looking for the white light the hotter it gets in the white heat
with the sounds of the Velvet Underground fresh in their ears
In his office in Stockport Town Hall the hitman
threw shell casings to his waste basket and missed.
